What is a chatbot?

A chatbot is built within a tool like Landbot that allows people to mimic the answers to questions real people have. For example, a company called Online Education Insider uses a chatbot as a tool to help people find online education.

In essence, with chatbots, you have the ability to create artificial intelligence that simulates a conversation with natural language that can be embedded into applications, websites (as shown above), and even mobile applications.

Why are chatbots important for businesses?

With the latest chatbot technology, we’re seeing Fortune 500 companies as well as start-up’s adopt them. Their one of the most exciting tools for businesses and marketers to further the interactions between humans and machines (made by humans). From a technological perspective, it’s essentially a glorified Q&A bot with conditional logic each step of the way.

I’ll list out some key benefits of having bots in your business.

  • Send Messages & Media on all digital platforms you own 💬
  • Answer Frequently Asked Questions Automatically 💡
  • Get leads, score them based on their replies and send the info to your DB 🔌
  • Schedule sales meetings with an automated conversation 📆

At the Online Creator Institute, we’ve used Landbot too.

  • Used it as the converstional bot on our homepage
  • Build WhatsApp bots for Surveys
  • Build WhatsApp bots for Product Recommendation
  • Build WhatsApp bots for Customer Support
  • Trigger custom flows based on the number of previous conversations
  • Send notifications to our subscribers

Formulating responses to questions in natural language is one of the most typical examples of Natural Language Processing applied in various enterprises’ and end-use applications.

How Chatbots work?

There are two foundational components of a chat bot.

  1. User Request Analysis
  2. Automatically Responding
  1. User Request: From many tasks, this is the first task that a chatbot performs. It’s takes into account the user’s input to figure out the core intent and obtains the relevant information. (Again, these parameters are set up by humans)
  2. Automatically Responding: Once the user input has been implemented, the chatbot will provide a solution or response for that request.

Here’s a snapshot of a typical chat bot (Landbot’s)bot interface.

Online Education Insider was kind enough to show us one of their chatbots for their scientific learning strand. Visit their site to see it in action.

This is what the above conversational bot is doing.

  1. Asks the user why they love science (User Input)
  2. Shows them a Science GIF once answered (Bot Output)
  3. Asks them what type of Science they would like to learn (Bot Output & User Input)
  4. Recommends the education that matches their interest.

How much do Chatbots cost?

They vary according based on the product. They can range all the way from $30 a month to $1000. Landbot is the best option for our business from a pricing perspective by far.

By now, we hope you can see how chatbots can be cost-effective solutions for business from multiple human-facing areas. Whether that be front-line sales, marketing, product, and even customer service.

Chatbots allow companies to make interactions between services and customers more efficient. They also offer companies new innovative ways to improve the overall customer experience by being available 24/7 365 a days a year.

Imagine paying an overseas team to do that. This is also a large cost-saving for businesses that typically hire overseas contractors to answer customer enquires. It also captures leads that is much more engaging than a stand-alone form.

Which chatbot application is right for you?

I’m not going to say it’s bespoke to your business. There’s a major player in the conversational bot market right now that’s dominating. Similar to how Salesforce & HubSpot dominate the Customer Relationship Management Software (CRM) landscape. While HubSpot has chatbot functionality, they don’t specialist in it and I’m pretty sure you’re not interested in paying over $1500 a month for a chatbot.

The clear winner and most versatile chatbot on the market today is Landbot. If you can’t get Landbot, go with Drift. Intercom is also a good chatbot alternative.

If you would like to invest in a chat bot. We recommend Landbot, and if you need help with the implementation, PetriDigital are the best-in-class bot creators for both small business and enterprise.
